Horse Hoof Pick
This horse hoof pick was created using 1800 Blacksmith techniques. This hoof pick was forged into this shape using a coal forge, recycling an old horseshoe, using tongs, anvil and a hammer. The hanging hole was done using a round punch. The maker's mark was also stamped by heating the metal to a red color, about 1600 F, and punching the maker's mark brand, with a special punch. Finishing the hoof pick by filing the sharp edges with a rasp, bastard file, and a bastard circular file, wire brush and applying a treatment to reduce metal corrosion. Once the horse hoof pick was completed we then attached a genuine leather hanging/whipping tail hand- square braided with a terminal knot. This item is a true representation of how blacksmithing was done back in the 1800s.
